What do i need to have a website?
For a website all you
need is three things:
1. A Domain Name
2. Website Hosting
3. Website Design
What is a domain name?
A Domain Name is the address for a website also known as URL.
The format is like this - http://www.YourName.com. Each domain Name
has an extension like... .co.uk/.com/.net etc.. (there are hundreds)
Its your choice of which extension you choose although prices do
vary. With a domain name you are able to point it to your website
so people have an easier way of accessing your website.
Behind all domain names there are address's that come in sets of
numbers. eg: 127.0.0.1 - These are called IP address's. The domain
turns a set of numbers and directory names into a simple address
that is easy for the public to access the website.
What is website Hosting?
All websites on the internet are held on computers that are
connected to the internet 24/7, 365 days a year. These computers
are called "Servers" and are very powerful, secure computers.
By purchasing website hosting, this allows you to copy your website
files to a server so that they can be available to be viewed by
the general public.
You can take your domain name and point it at a particular website
on that server.
